Three natural straw materials for every drink
Direct Eco Green offers natural straws in bamboo, reed and rice, so you can match the straw to the drink and to how often it will be used. All three replace plastic straws without changing the drinking experience.
- Bamboo straws — reusable, washable with a brush after each use, and can last from a few months to several years depending on use.
- Reed straws — cut from natural fibrous reed stems; washable, reusable on average 10 to 30 times, neutral in taste even in hot drinks.
- Rice straws — made from a starch dough; the factory recipe lists rice, tapioca starch and wheat flour. They hold 2 to 3 hours in hot drinks and 4 to 10 hours in cold drinks, with a shelf life of 3 years from the date on the package.
Because each bamboo or reed straw is a natural stem, every piece is slightly unique.

Materials and end of life
Direct Eco Green natural straws are made from plant materials with no plastic layer, which is what keeps them outside plastic straw bans. Describe their end of life precisely:
- Bamboo and reed are plant stems; once worn out, they can go to composting where facilities or programs accept them.
- Rice straws are a food-grade starch product. Because the factory recipe includes wheat flour, do not market them as gluten-free unless the ingredient sheet for your reference confirms it.
Under the FTC Green Guides, avoid unqualified "biodegradable" claims; a "compostable" claim should be backed by certification (BPI / ASTM D6400) and qualified by local access — tell us your target market and we confirm, before you order, which factory reference can document it.
Compliance for the US and Canada
In Canada, the Single-use Plastics Prohibition Regulations (SOR/2022-138) ban single-use plastic straws: manufacture and import have been prohibited since December 20, 2022 and sale since December 20, 2023, and the Federal Court of Appeal upheld the rules on January 30, 2026. Bamboo, reed and rice straws are outside the ban. In the US, rules on plastic straws are set at state and city level, so check those that apply where you operate; plant-based straws without a plastic layer are the simplest option to document. Ask for food-contact documentation for each reference with your quote.
Custom straws and private label packaging
Direct Eco Green can supply rice straws in custom colors, adjust lengths and diameters to your cups, and pack straws to your private label specification for retail or foodservice. Straws are often combined in the same shipment with bamboo cutlery sets or stainless steel straws. Samples are available before mass production.
Why buy natural straws factory-direct from Direct Eco Green
Direct Eco Green is a manufacturer and sourcing partner, not a distributor: we source bamboo, reed and rice straws from selected, audited partner factories, check quality on site in Vietnam and consolidate several products into one shipment. For high-volume and wholesale buyers importing from Vietnam and Asia, that means consistent batches and a lower total cost than re-sold stock.

Frequently asked questions
Which natural straw is best for bubble tea?
For bubble tea, choose a wide straw of 10 to 13 mm diameter in bamboo, reed or rice. Direct Eco Green supplies these wide straws in 150 to 200 mm lengths, with rice straws holding 4 to 10 hours in cold drinks.
How long do rice straws last in a drink?
According to factory data, Direct Eco Green rice straws hold 2 to 3 hours in a hot drink and 4 to 10 hours in a cold drink. Unused rice straws have a shelf life of 3 years from the date printed on the package.
Are bamboo and reed straws reusable?
Yes. Bamboo straws can be washed with a brush and reused for months or years depending on use, and reed straws can be reused on average 10 to 30 times when washed and air-dried after each use.
Are bamboo, reed and rice straws allowed in Canada?
Yes. Canada's Single-use Plastics Prohibition Regulations ban plastic straws, while straws made from bamboo, reed or rice are outside the ban. They are a compliant alternative for Canadian cafés and restaurants.
Are rice straws gluten-free?
Not necessarily. The factory recipe for Direct Eco Green rice straws includes wheat flour alongside rice and tapioca starch, so ask for the ingredient sheet of your reference before making any gluten-free or allergen claim.
