Materials and end of life
Kraft paper, cardboard and bagasse are fiber-based materials made from renewable resources: wood pulp for the board and sugarcane fiber for molded cases. Paper and board grades can be supplied FSC-certified under license FSC C204557.
- Plain kraft and cardboard boxes are recyclable where facilities exist.
- Magnetic-closure boxes contain small magnets; tell your customers to remove them before recycling the board.
- Molded bagasse is a fiber material; recycling and composting acceptance varies by program, so check locally before printing a disposal claim.
Compliance for the US and Canada
For wine and spirits packaging, the main rules concern environmental claims. The FTC Green Guides require claims to be specific and substantiated — prefer "made from FSC-certified board" or "recyclable where facilities exist" over "100% recyclable". California SB 343 restricts the chasing-arrows symbol and "recyclable" claims to materials that meet state recyclability criteria, so mixed constructions such as magnetic boxes need care.
