Leak-resistant paper bowls for salads, soups and sauces
These PE-coated paperboard bowls are built for take-out and delivery of wet, oily, acidic or hot food: a thin polyethylene film on the inside stops grease and sauces from soaking through, and boards of up to 320 gsm keep the bowl from sagging or softening. Uses: salads, poke, soups, desserts, sauces.
How this range differs from our kraft + PLA bowls: the disposable kraft paper salad bowls use a plant-based PLA lining (plus bamboo pulp options) and are aimed at commercial composting where facilities accept them. The bowls on this page use a PE lining: maximum liquid resistance and heavier boards, but they are not compostable. Choose by the dish and by the end-of-life claim you want to make.

PE barrier, PFAS and end of life
Direct Eco Green's paper soup and salad bowls get their grease and liquid barrier from a PE film, not from fluorinated treatments. That matters because intentionally added PFAS are banned in food packaging in New York, California, Washington, Vermont, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Hawaii; ask for the factory's PFAS declaration with your quote.
- Recycling: PE-coated paperboard is accepted in some recycling programs; check locally before printing a recyclable claim.
- Composting: PE-coated bowls are not compostable. If you need ASTM D6868 / BPI-type certification, use the kraft + PLA range instead.
- Lids: paper lids make an all-paper pack; PP/PET lids give crystal-clear display for chilled cases.
- Reheating: brief microwave warming of lukewarm dishes only, with plastic lids removed; for heavy microwave or oven use, choose injection-molded PP containers.
Compliance for the US and Canada
In Canada, paper bowls sit outside the Single-use Plastics Prohibition Regulations, which target foodservice ware made from expanded polystyrene, PVC, oxo-degradable plastic and carbon-black plastics; the Federal Court of Appeal confirmed on January 30, 2026 that the rules remain in force. Under the FTC Green Guides and California SB 343, avoid unqualified "recyclable" or "compostable" wording on PE-coated board. The European range ships with EU sorting marks pre-printed; for North America, tell us which on-pack marks you need.
Custom printing and private label
Direct Eco Green prints your branding at the factory, using two methods depending on the model:
- 1–4 color printing on the standard kraft salad bowls (500 to 1,300 ml) for sharp logos and text on natural kraft.
- Full CMYK printing on the 360 ml and 900 ml bowls with paper lids, including single-color printing on the lid edge, for 360° designs with photos and solid colors.
Samples are available before mass production.
Why buy paper bowls factory-direct from Direct Eco Green
Direct Eco Green is a manufacturer and sourcing partner, not a distributor: it works directly with audited partner factories in Asia and Europe, runs quality control on site in Vietnam and consolidates several product lines into one shipment. For chains ordering high volumes, that means a lower total cost per bowl than re-sold stock, board weights and coatings checked before shipping, and one contact from artwork to delivery.
Send sizes, lid choice, quantities and artwork through the quote form for a tailored quote within 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between these PE-coated paper bowls and kraft + PLA salad bowls?
Direct Eco Green's PE-coated paper bowls use a polyethylene lining and boards up to 320 gsm for maximum resistance to soups, sauces and grease, but they are not compostable. The kraft + PLA salad bowls use a plant-based lining and are designed for commercial composting where facilities accept them.
What is the minimum order for PE-coated paper soup and salad bowls?
The minimum order for these disposable paper bowls is 10,000 pieces per reference. The range covers eight sizes from 50 ml to 1,300 ml, with paper or PP/PET lids depending on the model.
What does 320 gsm + PE mean on a paper salad bowl?
Gsm means grams per square meter and measures paperboard density and rigidity; 320 gsm is among the thickest take-out boards, so the bowl does not crush in stacked delivery bags. "+ PE" means a thin polyethylene film lines the inside to make the bowl liquid-tight.
Can PE-coated paper bowls go in the microwave?
PE-coated paper bowls can handle brief microwave warming of lukewarm dishes, but plastic PET lids must be removed first. For frequent microwave or oven use, Direct Eco Green recommends its injection-molded PP container range.
Are lids included with the paper bowls?
Paper lids are included and fitted for the 50 ml, 360 ml and 900 ml models. For the 500 to 1,300 ml kraft salad bowls, PP or PET plastic lids are sold with the bowls or separately, so you can choose the lid material.
